What the business is
Going to homes, offices, restaurants, warehouses and factories to clear cockroaches, bed bugs, termites, rats and mosquitoes. It is not a one-day job: the chemical takes time to work, so the operator has to come back. Sheba.xyz states on its own page that cockroach treatment needs a 15-day wait, bed bugs 7 days and termites 3 days, with a 90-day warranty in each case that only begins 15 days after the job is finished; ants and mosquitoes carry no warranty at all. Household prices are set by the number of rooms and commercial prices by floor area in square feet, with a minimum service charge of Tk 500 if the bill comes to less. The backbone of the trade is the annual contract: restaurants, bakeries, food warehouses and hospitals take several treatments a year at a price agreed in advance, and that is far steadier than one-off jobs. There is also a legal point many people miss. Section 9 of the Pesticides Act 2018 bars anyone from operating commercial pest control without a licence. The licence comes from the Director of the Plant Protection Wing, Department of Agricultural Extension, runs for two years, and must be renewed on an application filed 30 days before it expires. Using or selling a pesticide that does not match what its label claims carries a fine of up to Tk 1 lakh, and Tk 2 lakh on a second offence. The chemical that kills pests can harm people too, and that liability sits with the operator.

What you need to start
- A pressure sprayer, a gel gun, a fogging machine for mosquitoes, measuring equipment, and personal protection - mask, gloves, goggles and apron - plus a separate locked store for the chemicals.Equipment
- Pesticides of registered brands - cockroach gel, bed bug spray, soil treatment for termites, rodent bait. The market practice for food premises is to use HACCP-certified chemicals.Starting stock
- Brand registration of the pesticide from the same Wing's Director (the Registration Authority). Section 4 of the Act bars importing, producing, selling, storing for sale or advertising an unregistered pesticide.Licence
- Trade licence from the city corporation or municipality: form Tk 10, licence book Tk 50, standard tax Tk 30, stamp Tk 150-300, licence fee Tk 100-60,000 by trade type, usually in 3-5 working days.Licence
- Pesticide licence from the Director, Plant Protection Wing, Department of Agricultural Extension (the Licensing Authority). Section 9 of the Pesticides Act 2018 bars commercial pest control without one; section 10 requires an application with the prescribed fee; section 11 sets a two-year term; section 12 requires a renewal application 30 days before expiry, for a further two years. The fee could not be verified here.Licence
- Knowing which chemical for which pest, at what dose and where; telling the customer how long to stay out; and explaining the waiting period - cockroaches take 15 days to go, and a customer who is not told assumes the job failed.Skill
- An authorised dealer or importer of registered pesticides, and a supplier of spray and fogging machines.Supplier
How the work runs
- 1Decide first what you will treat - cockroaches and bed bugs, or termites and rodents as well. Each needs a different chemical, a different method and a different waiting time.
- 2Go to the Plant Protection Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension and learn the licence procedure. Section 9 of the Pesticides Act 2018 bars commercial pest control without a licence.
- 3Check that the pesticide brand you will use is registered. Section 4 of the Act bars importing, selling or storing an unregistered pesticide, and registration comes from the same Wing's Director.
- 4Take the trade licence from the city corporation or municipality and a TIN from the NBR. Institutions will ask for both before signing a contract.
- 5Buy a spray machine, a gel gun, masks, gloves and goggles, and a separate locked box for the chemicals. Safety gear for yourself and your workers is not optional - the chemical reaches people too.
- 6Train yourself and your workers hands-on: which chemical, in what dose, where to apply it, and how long the room must stay empty. Too little and the pests live; too much and the customer falls ill.
- 7Write your pricing rule down in advance - by room for homes, by square foot for shops and offices - and keep a minimum service charge however small the bill; in the market that floor is Tk 500.
- 8State and write down the warranty terms. The market practice is a 15-day wait for cockroaches, 7 for bed bugs and 3 for termites, then a 90-day warranty that itself starts 15 days after the job.
- 9Put your effort into annual contracts. Offer restaurants, bakeries, food warehouses and hospitals a package of three or four treatments a year. One-off jobs come and go; contract money is steady.
- 10Record the date of every job and the name and dose of the chemical used. If an inspector comes, or someone claims they fell ill, that notebook is your only protection.
- 11Apply to renew 30 days before the licence expires. The term is two years and a renewal runs another two.

Risks and cautions
- HighCompliance: The risk runs both ways - the licence and the chemical. Section 9 of the Pesticides Act 2018 bars commercial pest control without a licence. Under section 29, selling or storing a pesticide that does not match its label carries a fine of up to Tk 1 lakh and a year's imprisonment in default, doubled to Tk 2 lakh and two years on repetition. Under section 31, misusing a registration number, adulterating the chemical or obstructing an inspector carries a fine of Tk 75,000 to Tk 1 lakh or one to two years in jail. Mobile courts can impose these penalties.
- HighOther: The chemical harms people too. Poisoning happens when there are children, elderly people, pregnant women or sick people in the house, or when a room is used again before it has been properly aired. If the chemical reaches food in a shop or bakery the liability is entirely the operator's. That is why the dose and product for every job must be written down - it is the only evidence when a complaint comes.
- MediumDemand: One-off jobs are not something to lean on. Customers usually call only when the problem is already bad, and once it is fixed they do not call again that year. Without annual contracts income swings month to month, and then wages and chemical costs become hard to find.
- MediumDependency: If the pests come back inside the warranty you must go again for nothing. The market standard is 90 days, and it only starts 15 days after the job, so one job carries about three and a half months of liability. If the flat or shop next door is not treated the pests return anyway - and the cost is still yours.
- MediumWorking capital: The chemical is bought before the job and the money comes after it. Institutional bills take time to clear while wages and travel are daily costs, and taking on several large contracts at once ties up serious money in stock.
